It was some years ago that our family had a little dog named Tuffy. He was a small cream colored friendly mutt. We really loved that little guy and everything about him, including that he didn't shed and we also enjoyed that he loved to travel with us. He became our special traveling companion.
When he died it took me quite a while to recover. In fact, it was over two years before I found the next dog in my life -- a quest of a year and a half to find the right breed and then over 6 months on a waiting list. Tuffy was not easy to replace!
LADY FATIMA'S BOLOGNESE
After the puppies from her first litter were off to their new families my thoughts turned to showing. Fatima and I headed into the ring. She became my first Champion. Puppies were never far from my thoughts though, and we started to think about getting our own male, which we did. We called him Shadow because of his constant need to follow me wherever I went. He was the second Bolognese we took into the show ring and he has since earned Master
Champion. He was the father of Fatima's second and third litters. One of the their sons, Toni, we kept and Toni has also become a Master Champion for us.
Back at home I thought my passion for the Bolognese was more or less my territory. I shouldn't have been surprised, but things didn't stay that way. It didn't take long for the Bolognese to win over the heart of my husband John. I now call John the "Pied Piper of the Bolognese."
They look to him as their papa and beg for his special attentions. John makes sure to treat each one in turn to a ride in the car, and they will all stand quietly together in a group and wait for him to pass out the summer sausage treats. Nine (yes I said 9) quiet, patient Bolognese is a sight to behold! These smart little guys know how to please their papa.
Yes, the Bolognese adore John and that is well deserved. He is retired now and is enjoying this house full of "kids" that follow him now everywhere that he goes. Our friends just laugh at the trail of white Bolognese that tend to come right behind John.
John and I call our Bolognese our kids. They are full members of our family, which means they have complete run of the house. When friends visit they tell us they are surprised that we have as many dogs as we do, and mention that they are not overwhelmed by the number of dogs underfoot. This is a tribute to the sweet and gentle nature of this wonderful breed.
I should say that all the dogs have full run of the house, except when the females are in season. Then we have a little house out back that we call the honeymoon suite. We give them every comfort and the girls have everything out there that they would have in our home, including a TV to listen to.
If you think you might like to have a Bolognese follow you around the house, please feel free to contact us about a Bolognese puppy of your own.

The time we spent to consider other breeds was very well spent and eventually brought us to the Bolognese breed. My first "Bolo," Lady Fatima, filled a place in my heart and my life that had remained empty after the loss of Tuffy.
Although Fatima was a breed/show female I was so infatuated with her that I completely forgot about showing or breeding, and just spent every minute soaking up her sweet nature and the bliss of owning a Bolognese. Of course. she was just too wonderful to keep only to ourselves, so our thoughts eventually brought us to consider breeding.
For Lady Fatima's first litter she was bred to Briz Cesky Dukat, a Czech and ARBA Champion. If you were in Vienna in 1996 at the World Dog Show you would have seen Briz place fourth. Through an extraordinary adventure of another Bolognese breeder Briz came to live in the United States and we were able to make connections with them for our first litter.
And what a litter it was! Fatima had 5 puppies. That was almost overwhelming. Little did we know what was in store for us. A year later, when she had her second litter she had 6 puppies and her next and final litter was a total of 7. All live and healthy!
Lady Fatima's is located in Bakersfield, California on a beautiful acre, full of blooming flowers, Koi ponds, pines and cactus. Happy Bolognese run through the lush landscape enjoying the freedom to greet guests, play to their heart's content, and rest in the shade of a pine tree with our family.
